Diving in the unspoilt reefs around Baros is simply breath-taking. We are considered a scuba-diver’s paradise with diving available all year round and water temperatures a fairly consistent 28 °C.

Day and night, the sea delights

Exploring the reef by night is a must-try Baros experience. As corals open up and extend their colourful flower-like tentacles, lionfish, lobster, shrimp and other nocturnal species leave the safety of their shelters to look for food. The waters at Baros come alive at night as phosphorescent plankton light up the ocean with their blue bioluminescent effect – simply magical.

With Fluo Night Diving you will be equipped with blue lights and a yellow barrier filter fitted over your eye mask. Certain marine life absorbs part of the blue light and emits a different colour. This effect is called fluorescence and reveals unusual yellows, greens, pinks and blues when a special light is shone in the water – the effect is spellbinding.

Something for everyone

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, Baros has something for you.

Beginners who are looking for a taste of the underwater experience can do a short introductory theory lesson followed by a supervised dive with one of our certified PADI instructors, all on site. Alternatively, if you are wanting to complete your PADI scuba certification you can complete the theory portion of the course online, through the PADI eLearning platform, before your trip, and then enjoy the practical completion of the course in our beautiful waters with our excellent instructors.

For more advanced divers we have our ‘Diving by design’ option. Here you can chat with our dive centre to curate a private dive trip, designed and personalised to your preferences.

Our diving centre at Baros is one of the first to open in the Maldives, and has been offering exceptional dive experiences to guests since 1979. As a PADI five-star Gold Palm Dive Centre, we keep group sizes small and pay careful attention to each diver, immersing you in a truly phenomenal dive experience.

We were the first EcoDive Centre in the Maldives to be certified by International Reef Check, which scientifically monitors, restores and maintains the health of coral reefs and we have a resident marine biologist on hand to ensure the safety and well-being of our underwater environment.
